Just in time, here’s my Eastercon schedule. Friday 21:00 – I’ll be one of Paul Cornell’s stunt readers in the Newcon Press programme stream. Saturday 12:30 in ‘Johnson’ – More reading, from my stuff this time and it’s two for the price of one! with a chance to hear the opening of The Ships of Aleph, plus […]
Less than a week until The Ships of Aleph is out. It’s hard to say too much about this novella without spoilers, but it is a story about just how far curiosity will take you. I’ve been told it’s quite an old-fashioned story, in that it’s a thinking person’s gentle adventure. Also, a little unusually […]
Here it is: the cover for my upcoming novella, The Ships of Aleph. The artwork is by renowned space artist David Hardy, whose work I’ve been a fan of for many years. When I said the publication was imminent I wasn’t kidding; thanks to the relative ease of e-publishing, The Ships of Aleph will be available […]
There was a phrase going round SFF fandom in the late 80s and early 90s: ‘rare unsigned Pratchett’. It was also said that no convention was complete without Terry Pratchett himself, because he went to everything, installing himself in a corner of the bar, typing away on his briefcase-sized laptop. Some organisers gave him a programme slot, […]
I’m delighted to announce the imminent publication of my novella The Ships of Aleph as an ebook. This story, set in the Hidden Empire universe, was originally available only as a limited-edition hardcopy chapbook, produced by Novacon 42 when I was their Guest of Honour. Watch this space for more details!
I’d love to be able to kick off 2015 by announcing I’ll have another novel out this year, either continuing the Hidden Empire sequence or something new but alas, I can’t. I have been working on other novel-length projects, and at least one of these will (by hook or crook) eventually see print. Just not this […]
I don’t hang out on Goodreads much. I still like the concept, although since it became property of the Evil A, I’m not so comfortable there. Still, I was surprised to learn recently (from a reader of this very blog) that my habit of not putting stars next to books actually brings their rating down. […]
I’ve had cause to take stock recently, and one of my more frivolous realisations is that, despite entitling this blog Tales from the Garret, I’ve never described said garret in any detail. Time to rectify that, I think. First off, a confession: it’s not a real garret. It’s actually a loft conversion. But it is […]
Just back from a lovely week away with Beloved to find my contributor’s copy of the Fox Spirit Books anthology Wicked Women waiting on the doormat (sorry about the Am*zon link, it’s not stocked in many places). My contribution is a retold fairytale (sort of), but I’m looking forward to reading the other stories, as […]
This time next week I’ll be packing for Novacon, where I have a packed schedule: Friday 22:00: Congoing On a Shoestring – It’s been a busy year for British and Irish fans: a Worldcon in London, a Eurocon in Dublin, a clearly unmissable weekend in Nottingham. But in a time of austerity, how can we stretch our […]
