One of the joys of writing, especially writing SF, is that it gives me the excuse to find stuff out.
Even though I’m nine-tenths of the way through the first draft of ‘Consorts of Heaven’, I’m still doing research. Admittedly my enquiries have been superficial, as I don’t want to let myself use research as writing avoidance. The plan is to take some of the time between finishing the first draft and starting the re-write to return to topics I’ve examined just enough to find out whether my use of them in the story will work.
My latest subject of interest was retroviruses. I’ve also looked at, and may return to: space elevators, Welsh drovers, the theory of zero and hypnosis. In fact, I’m hoping to get myself hypnotised in the interested of research. Not sure how that’ll work out…
