The copy-edited manuscript for Bringer of Light is now back with my editor. This means it’s time to return to the first draft of Queen of Nowhere. Given my feelings on first drafts, I’ve been in search of writing avoidance today, which is good news for the state of my house and garden, if not for my word-count.
I have also indulged in some sanctioned not-quite-writing, in the form of putting together the ‘prelims’ for Bringer of Light. I’d already come up with a dedication and the acknowledgements (hope I’ve got everyone in there …) but I needed quotes for the front. I’ve settled on one from the weird-but-excellent rock band Muse and one from Milton’s Paradise Lost. The former is two short but pithy lines on the subject of divinity and obedience (I’d have used the whole verse, but there are copyright issues with longer quotes from major bands) and the latter is Lucifer being reasonable. Between them they cover the bases.
