Short story sale

I’m pleased to announce that I’ve sold a story to the fantastically titled ‘Mammoth Book of Tales from the Vatican Vaults’, due out in spring 2015.

The premise behind this anthology is that the Catholic Church might have kept a few things secret down the years … but now the truth can be told. Lots of possibilities there, although the editor (wisely, in my opinion) stated in the book’s guidelines that stories in which Jesus survived the crucifixion and married Mary Magdalene would be a hard sell. He was after more original takes on alt. history, and I look forward to seeing what other writers have come up with.

My own contribution allowed me the chance to return to one of my favourite non-SF obsessions: pre-Columbian American history. I haven’t taken any major liberties because, well, the Church wouldn’t have been able to suppress anything too big would it? But I have taken a classic legend that has become a universal meme, and had a little fun with it. Sadly for them, the characters themselves have no fun at all.
