A minor real-world intrusion

As anyone who lives in the UK can’t have failed to notice, we have a general election coming up. I was sick of most of the coverage before the first week was out, but this morning, waking up to the sound of Radio 4’s Today program as usual, I was treated to the Clangers explaining politics. Finally, it all make sense.

If anyone wants to know what my own somewhat cynical take on the democratic process is, they need only read read Principles of Angels; however, for the benefit of any members of the security services monitoring this blog (paranoid? me?) I should add that the book is only fiction. Or possibly wish-fulfillment.

If Principles of Angels system was enforced only the Lib Dems would have a leader left.

Or possibly not even him, when the fickle public next changed their minds.

        Sad but true.

I’m still trying to convince myself that the entire last seven days (a volcano did *what*? The Lib Dems’ position in the polls is *where*?) haven’t been an extremely surreal dream. Waking up and hearing the Clangers comment on the election really wouldn’t have helped matters.

Then again, the station I most often overhear when I’m going out is Radio 5. The Clangers make much more sense than half the members of the public who go on there…

The world has been a bit surreal recently, hasn’t it?

I try and avoid ‘talk radio’ (as opposed to R4, which is radio with talking) as I usually end up shouting at it in disgust
