A week already? Blimey.

I’d like to be able to say that the reason I’ve not posted anything here for a while is that I’ve been busy writing, but that would be a lie.

In the last week I’ve done a bit of revision of old stories, though not as much as I’d hoped. I wonder if perhaps too much novel-writing has made me lose the knack of short stories. I’ve also delivered and received some useful crits. This has taken quite a lot of time as I had one long crit I’d promised a friend last month, and I had meetings of both my regular critiquing groups. There is some sort of bizarre clumping process affecting OSB and Tripod, as they always seem to end up on the same week; even if we schedule them further apart, someone – in this case me – usually ends up having to move one or other of the sessions around.

I’ve done some more of the much-threatened house de-cluttering, though I’ve ended up picking only certain rooms (t’garret, the nether regions – aka under the stairs – and our bedroom) and just pretending the other rooms have been done. Unfortunately the rest of the house now looks extra untidy when compared to the de-cluttered rooms.

The day-job’s also been a pain, with lots of overtime.

And … and … ah, I know these all sound like excuses, but trust me, they’re reasons. Really they are. If they were excuses then I’d feel guilty, and I’m really not in the mood for guilt.

Actually I’m not just posting here to justify under-achieving but also to mention the imminent arrival in all good bookshops of the paperback of Principles of Angels, which is out tomorrow. This edition comes with a small warning; somehow, the paperback has ended up with the wrong cover copy (aka the ‘blurb’); the back cover basically gives away the whole plot, so if you don’t want to know, don’t read the back!
