Surprisingly like buses

This may seem odd, but my writing currently bears an odd resemblance to travelling on public transport. I’d better explain:

A couple of weeks back, when I had to abandon Guardians of Paradise in favour of deadline-driven stuff like editing and proofreading, I was having problems with two out of my four viewpoint characters being incapacitated, and the remaining pair not co-operating with each other (or me). Now everyone’s up and about and they all want their say. So, I wait for ages, and now four come along at once. Typical.

The whole thing is turning of something of a scheduling nightmare (thus paralleling of my life in what we laughingly refer to as the ‘real’ world at the moment). My four characters are in three separate locations. Each location is in a different time-zone. One of the characters is in a location where she has no way of measuring time or knowing what the time is elsewhere. Two of the characters who are not in the same location are in intermittent contact. The remaining two are Doing Things that impact on everyone else.

I’ve ended up creating a spreedsheet.
