Not dead, just dead busy

Well, I survived Eastercon, even if my voice didn’t. Amongst many other firsts at the con (being interviewed, being hypnotised, being sober quite a lot of the time), I did my first non-verbal program item, due to a bout of laryngitis. Green Room came up trumps and made me cue cards for the ‘Sex and the Singularity’ panel. I think they kept the one saying ‘Shut Up Charlie’, though in all fairness Mr Stross was quite restrained, even if he did display a disconcerting depth of knowledge regarding the anal fauna of hippopotami.

I did very little work on the proofs for Principles of Angels at Eastercon, though I did collar various fellow writers, friends and passersby to have a go at checking odd chapters. If the timing works out the same next year, perhaps I should schedule reading the proofs for Consorts of Heaven as a program item, maybe a sort of audience participation workshop.

Joking aside, it was a fine Eastercon, and I would happily blather on about it at length, were it not for the need to crack on with the proofreading. Returning the final proofs is, as more experienced pros told me over the weekend, the one deadline that publishers won’t negotiate over.
